Hello again. Long time no Blog! It has been a very interesting year. I decided to postpone moving forward with the international hybrid publisher from whom I received a contract to publish my children’s picture book, All That I Needed. Instead, I decided to go back to school. Yes, at my age I’m going back to school. And why not? After researching several universities both online and on campus, I chose an online university that offers a master’s degree in English with a focus on creative writing in fiction.
I have now acquired twelve credit hours towards my masters and received invaluable creative writing experience with feedback from professionals in the writing field, as well as my peers. In addition to creative writing, I have been introduced to graduate studies in the English language that have stretched my understanding of how language works and is created. So, what does all this have to do with my journey to become published?
Expanding my knowledge of fictional writing techniques, as well as accepted, and “unexcepted” uses of the English language can only help increase the quality of my work, and therefore improve my opportunities to become published. Learning where, and how to find legitimate publishers can provide for new opportunities and success in my publishing journey. With any luck I just may run into someone at university, or a publisher that is willing to help me become a published author. Whatever happens, I know that every brick I put in place on my journey’s path is valuable.
To date I have completed an outline for a novel and written a short story. I will be entering the short story in the upcoming Writers Digest competition, and I will be seeking publications that might be interested in publishing the story. Yes! Another brick on the path in my journey to become published that University has introduced to me. Stay tuned, as I continue to share the knowledge I gain on my journey to become published. Now, it’s time to write.
